Girona vs. Feyenoord

Girona will host their first ever Champions League match when Feyenoord make the trip to Montilivi in one of Wednesday’s early kickoffs.

Both clubs fell to defeat on matchday one, with Girona losing in heartbreaking circumstances, while Feyenoord were thrashed on home soil.

Girona: The new boys who shocked all of Europe last term as they ended the stranglehold of the top trio Real, Barca, and Atletico Madrid last year are finding it impossible to repeat the trick this term.
On matchday one, they faced a daunting prospect: traveling to the French capital to face Paris Saint-Germain on their European debut.
This is where Michel’s side defended heroically and sometimes rode their luck until the final minute when, in a howler by Paulo Gazzaniga, he gifted an own goal that handed Paris a 1-0 win at Parc des Princes.
They had a clear tactics on the pitch and almost left with an elusive 0-0, but as it stands they have attempted only three shots in the entire game, only another club achieved this in their first game of the Champions League.
The Blanquivermells entered the PSG encounter after slumping to some unpleasant loss at the hands of Catalan rivals Barcelona 4-1 and haven’t done much better since that visit to the French capital so far.
Another one-sided pounding followed in a week with Michel’s men beaten again, this time by Valencia, with the ailing club recording their first and to date only win of the season.
Rayo Vallecano then drew 0-0 away to Michel’s team, and the Sunday match against Celta Vigo ended as close as a 1-1 score. Herrera put Yangel through at the start, and was matched just five minutes from time by Iago Aspas.
That leaves Girona down in 12th on just nine points, though, so a European push may not be on the cards this time around-meaning they have to make the most out of the current campaign and an expectant crowd at Montilivi would love nothing more than to see their side record a first win on the continent.
The hosts will be favorites too as life after Arne Slot has not been going too well for visiting Feyenoord.
New manager Brian Priske, who did so well previously at Sparta Prague, has yet to get going since arriving at De Kuip, winning just one of their opening four games of the Eredivisie season before the Champions League campaign began

They could hardly have made a worse start to the campaign, thumped 4-0 at home by German champions Bayer Leverkusen, leaving only Dinamo Zagreb, who lost 9-2 on matchday one, below them in the 36-team standings.
The Rotterdam club did respond to that drubbing by thrashing NAC Breda 2-0 but lost more points at the weekend, this time drawing 1-1 on the road to NEC Nijmegen, leaving them down in sixth and already 11 points off the summit after just seven games.
But a knowledge that there is no possibility of playing Roma, the team that have defeated them in the last three years in Europe, may provide Feyenoord with a little more optimism, as the winners of 1970 will see progression from this round for the first time.
Six times previously, Feyenoord have featured in the qualifying groups and were knocked out on all occasions, including last term, when they finished behind Atletico Madrid and Lazio.
Part of that would be down to wretched away form as the Dutch side have lost all of their last 10 on the road in this competition, while the last time they avoided defeat came in a 1-0 win over Newcastle United all the way back in 2002.
